Clears Lung Heat, cools the Blood, clears Damp Heat or Blazing Heat/Fire in the Upper, Middle or Lower Burner.

Antiphlogistic Formula is a modern formula built on the long empirical use of its individual herbs. It addresses intense Heat and Heat toxin, especially when acute Heat accumulates in the head, throat, Lung, skin, digestive tract or urinary system. It clears Heat and Fire from all three Burners.

Formula Composition

Andrographis herb (Chuan Xin Lian), the chief herb, is extremely bitter and cold. It is effective enough to use on its own and clears Heat broadly throughout the body. It also dries Dampness and resolves Heat toxin, particularly when it manifests in the skin.

Two herbs support it. Isatis root (Ban Lan Gen), also bitter and cold, drains Heat and resolves toxicity, with particular affinity for the Upper Burner. Dandelion herb (Pu Gong Ying), bitter, sweet and cold, clears Heat, reduces swelling and dissipates accumulations, which makes it useful when Heat collects in the Upper or Lower Burner.

Clinical Combinations

Antiphlogistic Formula is designed to be added to other formulas to strengthen their Heat-clearing action. The companion formula directs that action to the appropriate Burner or system:

  • Wind Heat: combine with Initial Defense, Yin Qiao, Gan Mao Ling or Zhong Gan Ling.
  • Qi-level Heat in the Interior: combine with White Tiger for strong Heat clearing.
  • Phlegm Heat in the Lung: combine with Pinellia Dispersing Formula.
  • Heat and Fire in the skin: combine with Derma Wind Release or Colorful Phoenix Pearl Combination.
  • Damp Heat with Fire in the Liver and Gallbladder: combine with Quell Fire from the Kan Herbals line. This is a strong combination for short-term use only.
  • Heat and Fire in the digestive tract: combine with Traveler’s Comfort.
  • Damp Heat in the digestive system: combine with CoptiDetox.
  • Damp Heat in the Urinary Bladder: combine with Relieving Formula or Water’s Way.
  • Shao Yang patterns with Heat: combine with Minor Bupleurum.
